The Center For Mind and Body Health

A Holistic Approach to Mental Health

Services

Individual Therapy

Adults, teens, and children of all ages are welcome. Treatment is offered for those experiencing chronic illness, chronic pain, undiagnosed illnesses and physical symptoms, anxiety, depression, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder, grief and loss, trauma, eating disorders, life transition or relationship stress, attachment difficulties, adult ADD/ADHD, organizational skill and executive functioning, and those wishing to lose weight or quit smoking.

Individual therapy is just that- individual. This means that treatment is individualized to fit your unique set of needs. And because of the holistic approach when it comes to therapy, treatment plans are adapted to encompass not only mental and physical health, but social, spiritual, and lifestyle factors as well. These treatment plans are created just for you with your input to increase chances of success and healing. Similarly, the length of treatment will vary on an individual basis. The holistic mental health approach allows for a unique view of the individual and allows us to feel better, faster. In fact, many clients feel a positive change in the first few sessions, and on average are able to complete therapy in 3-4 months.

Often individuals in therapy wish to bring their families, spouses, and loved ones to session in an effort to increase understanding and support. Because social support has been shown to have such a dramatic impact on mental and physical health, this is encouraged at no extra charge.

Couples and Family Therapy

Couples and families often seek therapy to increase support and positive communication, repair relationships, identify relational problems, and adjust to life changes such as mental and physical illness, death of a loved one, or job loss. Couples and family therapy has also been shown to ease transitions into major life events such as marriage, separation or divorce, having or adopting children, moving, job change, and college.

The Center takes the same holistic and individualized approach to creating a treatment plan for couples and families that meets the needs of all members involved. Treatment length varies depending on these needs.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is ideal for those looking for social support and a feeling of being understood from others in the same situation. Group sessions are typically held weekly, with the length and duration of sessions varying from group to group. Examples of groups held at The Center include chronic pain and illness, loved ones of those suffering from chronic pain and illness, undiagnosed illness support, anxiety and stress reduction, grief and loss, trauma, and groups using mind-body techniques such as relaxation, meditation, and deep breathing. Suggestions for new groups are always welcome!

Teletherapy

In today’s busy world, it can be difficult to take the time to travel to and from appointments. Maybe you have a busy schedule that cannot afford travel time, or have found yourself without means of transportation. Maybe you are feeling under the weather or are traveling. Or maybe you have moved or have found a provider you like that is too far away to get to. For these reasons and many more, teletherapy is provided. Teletherapy has become a solution for those that wish to have the regularity of sessions without the ability to get to the office. Teletherapy is offered via Skype or FaceTime. For those with a limited/no internet connection, or for those who prefer more privacy, teletherapy is also offered via telephone.

Workshops, Lectures, and Presentations

Topics include chronic pain and illness, pain management, stress reduction, mind-body relationship, psychoneuroimmunology, and the effects of mental and physical illness on the mind and body. Fees vary, call or email for rates.

Psychological Testing

Psychological testing is often sought out to clarify a diagnosis, to test if a medication is effectively working, to aid in referrals to other providers,  and clearance for medical procedures or return to work. Testing batteries can be personalized to include psychological/emotional, behavioral, cognitive, attention/memory, and executive functioning. Testing can be done for children ages 6 and up, as well as for teens and adults. At the completion of testing, you will receive a personalized report detailing your results and feedback that can be given to other providers for ease of referral, if desired. Fees vary and some insurance benefits may apply. Call or email for rates or to request a free 15-minute phone consultation with Dr. Gilman.
